My Verizon FiOS® experience:

Tip #1: Choose a phone, that you will be happy with for a few years. I would typically spend a little more here, since you will likely have to sign a 2 year contract.

Tip #2: Is that phone available as a refurbished model? Most people shy away from refurbished products, but I fully embrace them. Verizon Wireless offers certified pre-owned phones that have passed a 100+ point check list. Verizon also performs a cosmetic inspection of the phone, to check for blemishes and scratches. Verizon also has a state of the art functional manual and electronic inspection performed on each phone. If you are still worried, there is a 14 day return policy Verizon CPO refurbished phones. Basically these devices are “like-new.”

Tip #3: Check this page for up to date offers from Verizon. I check Verizon daily for current coupon and promo codes, and there is typically a free shipping code and maybe even an offer for up to 30% off.
